Things We Left Unsaid

2025

Some things should never remain unsaid.

Things We Left Unsaid is an emotionally engaging and interactive stage play set in modern day Nigeria. The story centers on an estranged father and son, Ogbonna and Nnamdi, whose relationship has been shaped by years of silence, pride, and unresolved pain. Through a series of monologues and intimate confrontations, both men revisit the moments that fractured their bond, each revealing their own version of the past and the emotions they struggled to express.

Their silence has not only affected them but has also shaped the lives of those closest to them. Chioma, Ogbonna’s youngest child, and Sylvia, Nnamdi’s wife, are caught in the emotional aftermath of a conflict that was never openly addressed.

At the center of the stage stands a wooden door, physically separating the two men and symbolizing the barrier of communication that remained closed for much of their lives. As the story unfolds, the door becomes a powerful metaphor for the conversations that were avoided and the vulnerability both men were taught to hide.

Through reflective storytelling and moments of audience participation, Things We Left Unsaid explores the emotional struggles many men face within families and society. The play challenges stereotypes surrounding masculinity, examining the pressure to appear strong, the fear of emotional exposure, and the quiet cost of repression. In doing so, it gently questions the assumptions of patriarchal strength while revealing the insecurities and wounds men often carry in silence.

Ultimately, the play invites audiences to reflect on the power of communication, the weight of unspoken truths, and the possibility of healing when silence is finally broken.
